'Golden Snow Globe' race: Syracuse leading among snowiest cities in the U.S.

Syracuse leads Anchroage, Alaska for the "Golden Snow Globe" this winter (CNYCentral).

It's a source of pride and pain for Central New Yorkers. Syracuse is once again leading the race for the snowiest city in the United States.

The "Golden Snow Globe" competition, run by Patrick DeCoursey, of East Syracuse, has Syracuse narrowly edging out Anchorage, Alaska for first place. He measures the top 25 snowiest cities with a population of 100,000 or more.

Snow totals are expected to change as more falls in the Syracuse area through Friday morning, but as of the last official measurement, 40.8 inches of snow has fallen in Syracuse this season.

Our friends in Rochester are in third place, with 29.6 inches of snow.
