TOWN OF GRANBY, N.Y. -- A home went up in flames earlier Friday night that claimed the life of a 71-year-old man, according to the Oswego County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies were called to the scene of 36 Chase Road just after 6:00 p.m. for reports of a fire structure. They say the home that caught fire was a single family residence and one person was inside at the time of the fire.
Rescue crews were able to get 71-year-old Peter Valkenburg out from the burning home but he was pronounced dead upon recovery.
One fireman was also taken to the Oswego Hospital to be treated for an injury that occurred during the recovery of Valkenburg.
At this time, fire investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
