ICE: Suspect in connection to death of Sodus mom was previously deported from the U.S.
(WHAM) - Officials say the man facing charges in connection to the death of a Sodus mother was previously deported from the United States.
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, also known as ICE, says 25-year-old Alberto Ebavardo Gutierrez-Reyes, an illegally present citizen of Mexico, was removed from the United States on two previous occasions in 2016 and 2017. He has a 2017 federal conviction for illegal entry.
He is currently in the custody of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
Selena Hidalgo-Calderon's body was found dead in a wooded area in Sodus Wednesday morning near her home on Joy Road.
Reyes was arrested on Thursday in Livingston County in connection to Selena's death; he is charged with tampering with physical evidence after he was seen on trail cameras near the Joy Road home, carrying a shovel.
An Amber Alert has been issued for Selena's 14-month-old son, Owen, who is still missing.
Crews searched a Sodus farm on Joy Road for Owen on Saturday. The search for him will continue Sunday morning.
