ICYMI in CNY: Syracuse ranks high in top cities for young people to live

CENTRAL NEW YORK -- In case you missed it, here are some stories from all over that have some interest here in Central New York.

Syracuse was ranked number 49 out of 589 cities for the top places for recent college graduates to live and work. Better yet, Syracuse was one of the few cities that ranks in the northeast.

The National Spelling Bee is in May, but the process for the contest is already underway. In Central New York, 150 school champions sat for the written round of the spelling bee at Onondaga Community College this past Saturday. We have been told that 5 of the children in the running had perfect scores. The best 35 now move on to an oral spell down on February 11th and that winner will go to Washington for the finals.

January is National Radon Action month and it's a good time to get your house tested. Radon is colorless and odorless. It can come through homes through cracks in concrete floors and walls, drains and even in sump pumps.

It is the number one cause of lung cancer. This month many county health departments, including Onondaga, Madison and Cayuga all offer free test kits.
