Inmate dies in Oswego County Jail
OSWEGO COUNTY, N.Y. —
An inmate in Oswego County Correctional Facility died after a "medical emergency" early Friday morning.
According to the Oswego County Sheriff's Office, a housing unit officer detected a change in the breathing pattern of a sleeping inmate and notified a supervisor. Officials performed CPR until Menter Ambulance arrived.
Despite life-saving measures taken, the inmate was pronounced dead at the facility. The inmate's body was taken to the Onondaga County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
Deputies are not releasing the name of the inmate until family is notified.
The New York State Commission of Corrections and the Oswego County Corner's Office are inducting independent investigations into the death.
