SYRACUSE, N.Y. — John Mannion announced his campaign for State Senate to represent NY's 50th Senate District on Wednesday morning in Schiller Park.
The 50th district represents suburban Syracuse and other communities in Central New York, including parts of Cayuga and Onondaga counties.
The announcement comes after Sen. Bob Antonacci was recently elected to a seat on the NY Supreme Court and is anticipated to resign from his seat on the Senate.
Mannion previously ran for the position last year, earning 49 percent of the vote against Antonacci. He is a well-known local educator and community leader.
A special election for Antonacci's Senate seat is anticipated to be called sometime in 2020.
"Last year, I ran for State Senate because our communities deserve to get our fair share of state aid, investment, and focus," Senate Candidate John Mannion said.
"We deserve real leadership and a dedicated public servant who will work to strengthen our schools, invest in job training programs, and protect our water and natural resources. As our next State Senator, I will fight for Central New York families and small businesses in Albany."
