Karate instructor gets 6 months behind bars for having sexual contact with teen girls
SYRACUSE, N.Y. —
A karate instructor from Mattydale who pleaded guilty to having sexual contact with two teen girls has learned his fate.
Douglas Reynolds was sentenced to six months behind bars and 10 years probation Wednesday. The sentence comes after Reynolds pleaded guilty to felony charges of second-degree Criminal Sexual Act and third-degree Criminal Sexual Act.
The charges stemmed from assertions Reynolds had sexual contact with two girls, one under 17 years old and another under 15 years old. The victims and their families were in court Wednesday as Reynolds received his sentence.
When they announced his arrest last year, deputies in the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office said Reynolds is a karate instructor who may have worked in the Central New York area.
Court documents previously acquired by CNYCentral alleged Reynolds had sexual contact with a child under 17 at his Mattydale home on Boston Road between April and June 2017. The documents also alleged he had sexual contact with a child under 15 at his home between December 2016 and August 2017.
In addition to the jail time, Reynolds will also be required to register as a sex offender. Orders of protection were also issued for each of the victims.
