Large development project proposed in Manlius

A big development project for the Village of Manlius has been a long time coming.

A collection of luxury apartments, retail shops, a restaurant, coffee shop and other establishments in its downtown may be closer than ever.

According to developer Richard Sykes, the proposal came to his mind back in 2008, but he sat on it because it wasn't the right time in the market.

Now, he says the timing is right and he hopes to break ground in the spring if the proposal is passed.

The project would sit on six acres in the heart of Manlius on Fayette Street.

Mayor Paul Whorrall believes this is a great thing for the village and sees a lot of potential for growth with the development.

"I think those are the things we desperately need here in the village," Whorrall said. "Places for people to go and frequent."

Many residents nearby say the consensus for the proposal is positive and hope it's a go for the village.
