Two of Central New York’s representatives continue to call for a bipartisan end to the government shutdown, now the longest in U.S. history.

Rep. John Katko (R-NY-24) and Rep. Anthony Brindisi (R-NY-22) appeared together at Syracuse Hancock International Airport Tuesday to announce their plan to sponsor a bill that would pay TSA workers using TSA money during the shutdown.

“This is something that has gone on far too long,” said Rep. Brindisi. “We want to make sure we are taking action and in the meantime to pay these front line workers who are keeping us safe every single day."

The bill would include back pay for TSA employees who have been working without a paycheck since Dec. 21.

Rep. Katko said he hopes the proposal President Trump offered this weekend over DACA recipients will be a starting point.

“Let’s bargain. Let’s get this thing done.” Rep. Katko said.
