Local group making push during Suicide Prevention Week

The Onondaga County Suicide Prevention Coalition is pushing to help save lives during Suicide Prevention Week.

Sunday Sept. 10 is World Suicide Prevention Day, and Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner has declared Sept. 10-16 as Suicide Prevention Week for the City of Syracuse.

According to the National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, suicide in the United States has surged to the highest level in 30 years. In Onondaga County, there were a reported 180 deaths by suicide from 2013-15, an increase of 64 percent from 2001-03.

Coalition members will hold community outreach programs to discuss suicide prevention resources, training's, and services available to individuals, schools, and organizations throughout the city of Syracuse, Onondaga County, and Central New York.
