Man fires shots after argument with family members

A man fired shots into the ground outside a residence in the Town of Willet on Sunday, according to the Cortland County Sheriff's office.

Justin A. Granata, 31, was charged with:

  • Reckless Endangerment in the first degree
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the second degree
  • Menacing in the second degree
  • Two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child
  • Three counts of Unlawfull Possession Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device
  • Unlawful Possession Certain Ammunition Feeding Device

Around 1:24 p.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a residence on Lower Cincinnatus Road, in Willet for a domestic call, deputies said.

Deputies learned Granata had been involved in a confrontation with family members at the residence and had fired shots into the ground, while close to the residence.

Children were inside the residence at the time of the incident, deputies said, but no one was injured.

Granata is scheduled to reappear in the Town of Willet court on Wednesday at 6 p.m., according to the sheriff's office.

He was sent to Cortland County Jail on $5,000 cash bail, $10,000 bond, deputies said.
