SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse Police have identified the victim of a homicide that appears to have happened after an argument on South Salina Street late Friday night.

30-year-old Maurice Ross, from Syracuse, has been identified as the man who lost his life after suffering a gunshot wound to the head. Police say when they responded to the scene they found Ross lying on the ground in the parking lot of the Express Lane Mart located 3226 S. Salina St. at about 11:45 p.m. Friday.

Police say after investigating they believe Ross was involved in a verbal fight with another man, who reportedly pulled a gun and fired the fatal shot. That man, and a second unidentified man, were then seen running west on West Calthrop Avenue, according to investigators.

Police say they have no suspect information at this point, other than to say the two men were described as black males.

Syracuse Police say the homicide investigation is active and ongoing, and anyone with information can contact Syracuse Police at 442-5222 or with the anonymous 'SPD Tips' app.
