Man shot while trying to break up fight in Syracuse
SYRACUSE, N.Y. —
Syracuse Police are investigating after a man was shot in the chest on Westmoreland Avenue.
It happened Thursday afternoon, just after 4:15 p.m.
According to Syracuse Police, officers responded to a shooting call on South Salina Street near East Kennedy Street. Officers said that's when they found a 58-year-old man who had been shot.
Police said the victim told them he watched a fight occur between several people on Westmoreland Avenue. When he tried to break up the fight, the victim said one of the people involved shot him.
According to officers, the victim left to seek help. He was taken to Upstate University Hospital by ambulance. Police said he is expected to survive.
There is no suspect information available at this time.
