MANLIUS, N.Y. — Manlius police officers rescued a duckling that had gotten away from its mother near Sno Top ice cream shop.
Several patrons had seen an adult female duck that appeared in distress near a storm drain, police said.
One of the officers was able to reach into the drain and rescue the duckling, reuniting it with its mother.
During the rescue, police said the mother duck was clipped by a passing vehicle, but appeared unharmed.
"Please slow down in high pedestrian areas! The ice cream shop has several children in the area... and apparently baby ducks too!" the police department wrote in a Facebook post.
