Memorial Day Weekend Weather Preview
It's that time of the year! Barbecues are firing up, pools are opening up, and boat engines are starting up all for the first time. Approaching Memorial Day weekend brings out all those sights, smells, and sounds we affiliate with the warmer weather.
That being said, we CNYCentral Weather Authority meteorologists do have some concerns about active weather for the Memorial Day Weekend. The attached graphic shows the CPC 6-10 day outlook (Climate Prediction Center) for temperatures. Right now, the general trend appears to be that temperatures will be above average, likely in the 80s, for much of the extended holiday weekend. In general, we foresee a warmer, more humid push of air. These are just some of the ingredients we need to get some active thunderstorms going.
Another factor? An approaching cold front, which would help to focus the energy of those showers and storms. Quite a bit can change 6-8 days out, but we currently have indications from our mid-range models that a cold front will swing through either late Sunday or Monday. Depending on the timing of that boundary, we could be talking about strong to severe thunderstorms on a weekend which is very outdoor activity-centric.
Best advice we can offer this far out? Stay tuned, not only to our CNYCentral family of TV stations, but of course online and on our social media channels.
