New York State Police are investigating a fatal crash that happened on Buckley Road in the Town of Salina Wednesday.

Troopers at the scene say a car driven by Shawn Cleary, 28, from Tully veered off the road into a yard; the driver told investigators he was reaching for his glasses. When he went off the road, state police say his car struck a 73-year-old man who was mowing the lawn on a riding mower. Troopers said the man was "pretty far" into the lawn away from the road when he was struck.

State police said the Thaddeus Florczyk, 73, owned a lawn service and was mowing his neighbor's lawn at the time. He died as a result of his injuries.

Buckley Road was closed for several hours between Lorian Drive and Homeview Drive as authorities worked the scene.

The crash is under investigation.
