Oneida Co. park closed due to vandalism
Nancy Sheppard Memorial Park in the village of Clayville will likely be closed for the summer after officials discovered it was vandalized.
According to WKTV, Mayor Terry Dote said there is at least $7,500 worth of damage to playground equipment, picnic tables, and trash cans.
Picnic table seats were found smashed, holes were burned into some of the playground equipment, and trash cans that are bolted to the ground were toppled over, Dote said.
The Oneida County Sheriff's Department is investigating the incident. The mayor said whoever is found responsible for the damage will face felony charges.
WKTV reported that the playground is currently closed, and likely to remain closed for the summer.
