SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Sunday night, Syracuse Police were called to a shooting in the area of the 300 block of Otisco Street.

Police were dispatched to the area just after 11:00 PM Sunday night for a loud noise complaint as well as a person down. Before their arrival, Police were called and told there would be gunfire at the Father's Day gathering.

In a statement made today by Police Chief Frank Fowler, it was revealed that 41-year-old Gary Porter (who had been previously identified under an alias) died as a result of a gunshot wound. Police are still trying to determine what gun the bullet came from. Chief Fowler said that he's been in touch with the Porter's father who was out of town at the time of the shooting, and is on his way back to Syracuse.

The two will be releasing a joint statement with further information at an undetermined time.

A 31-year-old woman also sustained a gunshot wound to the leg in the ordeal. Her injury is not considered to be life-threatening. A teenager also sustained injuries when she fell while trying to get away from the shooting, according to her family.

In addition to the responding Officer's shot, multiple other handguns had been fired from the crowd, totaling 4 shots overall. Police do not yet know if it was the officer's bullet that hit Porter.

Police officers were met by a hostile crowd that threw rocks and bottles at them. This led authorities to request assistance from other nearby Police agencies.

Overall, 2 Police officers are recovering from unspecified injuries.

The officer who fired the shot has been placed on administrative leave while the SPD and D.A.s office investigate the incident.
