Oswego firefighters had to overcome some difficult conditions as they battled an excavator fire Friday morning.

The Oswego Fire Department says it responded to Port City Logistics at 305 East Seneca Street at 7:37 a.m. for a reported structure fire. When firefighters arrived, the burning excavator was dragged out of the building by another piece of heavy equipment.

"The excavator was pulled outside the structure, certainly saving the building from sustaining damage," said Assistant Fire Chief Jon Chawgo. "Our crew did a great job in challenging conditions."

High heat, flammable liquids from the vehicle and a lengthy distance between the fire and the nearest hydrant made battling the fire difficult, but ultimately crews were able to put out the blaze.

Nobody was injured by the fire. The cause is under investigation, but is not considered suspicious, according to the Oswego Fire Department.
