Pictures could be clues about who left a dog to die in Cortland County

Pictures could be clues about who left a dog to die in Cortland Co. / SPCA Law Enforcement Division

Animal cruelty investigators in Cortland County have released photos of a brown and white Boxer mix they say was left for dead.

The pictures could lead to tips on who owns the animal, and who left it deep in woods off Hoxie Gorge Freetown Road Thursday.

The dog was discovered by a Good Samaritan who heard the dog barking around 4:30 p.m. Animal cruelty investigators say the dog was tied to a tree about 100 yards off the road. It was in a spot where no one could see it, they added.

"There is a good chance it would have died there had the Good Samaritan not found it when they did," the Cortland County SPCA said in a prepared news release.
