Police Arrest Ithaca Man Armed with a Machete

Dakota Croak

An Ithaca man is accused of assaulting residents while carrying a machete.

Around 10:00pm on September 20, police were called to an apartment complex at 150 West Village Place for the report of an assault.

At the scene, officers determined a man forced his way into an apartment and punched the resident, demanding drugs and money. The suspect ran off when the victim said he had neither.

The victim suffered a small cut to his hand from the machete.

While investigating the complaint, officers responded to a similar report at an apartment in the 600 block of Chestnut Street, which is adjacent to the first scene.

The second victim told police a man with a machete entered her apartment and smashed her microwave, before running away.

While officers were formulating a plan to search the immediate area the suspect, 20-year-old Dakota Croak, of Ithaca, appeared back on scene and approached officers while still carrying the machete. Officers were able to safely disarm and arrest Croak.

Croak was arraigned on charges for Burglary, Menacing and Criminal Possession of a Weapon.

He was sent to the Tompkins County Jail in lieu of $4,000 cash or $8,000 bond.
