Police: Dog left inside 110-degree car in Geneva dies; owner charged
Geneva, N.Y. (WHAM) - Police in Geneva arrested a man accused of leaving a dog inside a hot car Wednesday.
Investigators say the dog, a 5-year-old Boxer mix named Shadow, died from heat exposure.
Geneva Police and the Ontario County Humane Society were called to a home on North Street around 3:50 p.m. According to police, Shadow had been left inside the car for about 50 minutes in 80-degree weather. The car was turned off, had little ventilation and no way to get out. It was also left in direct sunlight.
Investigators said the temperature inside the vehicle was found to be over 110 degrees when they went inside.
The dog's owner, 29-year-old Roger Chilson, was arrested and charged with felony aggravated cruelty to an animal.
