Police looking for suspicious truck that approached children in Cortland County

Letter sent to parents in the Homer School District about suspicious truck

Cortland County Sheriff's deputies are investigating an incident involving a suspicious truck. It happened around 6:55 p.m. Monday on Cold Brook Road in the Town of Scott.

Police say a homeowner told them an older model, brown, full sized pickup truck with a standard sized cab pulled into their driveway while children were playing in the yard. They say a white man with a grungy appearance got out of the car and waved at the kids. The kids ran around to the back of the yard and alerted the homeowner. The man then reportedly followed the kids around back. The homeowner then spotted the man driving away along Route 281.

School officials in the Homer Central District sent home a letter to parents, warning them about the suspicious incident. The man is described as a white male, about 5'10" to 6'0" tall with a medium build. He was seen wearing a camouflage jacket, baseball cap, brown pants with brown short cut hair and some facial hair.

Sheriff's deputies were unable to locate the suspicious truck. If you have any information, contact Cortland County Sheriff's deputies at (607) 753-3311.
