Police looking for vehicle that fatally struck woman in Syracuse
SYRACUSE, N.Y. —
Syracuse Police are looking looking for a vehicle that fatally struck a woman early Tuesday morning.
Police say it happened on North Franklin Street under the bridge near Webster's Landing at 12:44 a.m. Responding officers found a woman who was unconscious and unresponsive.
Later Tuesday evening, Syracuse Police identified the victim as 56-year-old Sylvia Jenkins, of Syracuse.
Jenkins was taken to Upstate University Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Investigators say it appears Jenkins may have been in the northbound lane when she was struck. Police are looking for a gray or silver vehicle that may have damage to the front headlight and fender area.
Syracuse Police have found the woman they believe was behind the wheel. On Tuesday evening, a source familiar with the investigation said it's expected the suspect will turn herself in on Wednesday.
This development backs up a statement from Syracuse Police earlier in the day that a "significant break" in the investigation will be revealed Wednesday afternoon.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 315-442-5130 or 911.
