'Protecting our Children' special nominated for New York State Emmy

CNY Central is proud to announce that last yearâ??s â??Protecting Our Childrenâ?? child abuse special presentation - a collaboration between several Central New York broadcasters - has been nominated for a New York State Emmy award. Itâ??s the highest award given in broadcasting.

NBC 3 Anchor and Managing Editor Matt Mulcahy and CBS 5 Anchor and Managing Editor Michael Benny co-hosted the program with anchors from other television and cable outlets.

Both Mulcahy and Benny are nominated for the broadcast as producers of the program. CNYCentral Vice-president of News Rae Fulkerson and CNY Central President & CEO Chris Geiger were also involved in the organization and production of the program.

The broadcast aired simultaneously on stations across Central New York including NBC 3, CBS 5 and CW6.

"Protecting Our Children" took an in-depth look at the disturbing subject of sexual, verbal and physical abuse of children. Reporters from the participating stations spoke to survivors, explored the challenges facing child abuse investigators, showed the McMahon/Ryan Child Advocacy Center through a child's eyes, and investigated the New York State statute of limitations policy.

â??Protecting Our Childrenâ?? is in competition with four other television specials, all of them produced downstate.

The New York Emmy Awards are presented in April.
