SYRACUSE N.Y. — CNYCentral is featuring the 12 "Real Heroes" the Red Cross honored for their life-saving efforts or incredible contributions to Central New York.
Cassandra Bradford is a nurse-educator at Upstate’s Joslin Diabetes Center, but she does not leave her skills when she’s off-duty: While out to dinner with a high school friend, she noticed an older woman who ‘did not look quite right.’
She was apparently having a stroke, and Cassandra quickly stepped up to help, even testing the woman’s blood sugar levels (she had kits in her car). And, her involvement did not end when paramedics took the woman for more medical treatment: Cassandra has stayed in touch, and even visited the woman in rehab—proving that care also has a personal touch.
Her dedication and willingness to step up and help earned Cassandra Bradford this year’s Medical Real Hero award.
