Renovations at Syracuse Airport revealed
SYRACUSE, N.Y. —
It was a day of excitement inside the improved Syracuse Hancock International Airport. Governor Cuomo was in Syracuse Thursday to announce the competition of the multi-million dollar modernization of the airport.
Wherever you look, you can tell the Syracuse Airport is entering a new era.
"All you have to do is look around, and it’s impossible not to be wowed with the results," Syracuse Airport Director Christina Callahan said.
They are results that CenterState CEO is loving, hoping they will lead to more economic growth for Central New York.
"As someone who works with businesses who are looking to attract talent, who are looking to expand, and businesses that were hoping to attract to the region. There is nothing more important than a first impression, and the first impression for so many folks is this airport," Kevin Schwab with CenterState CEO added.
Schwab calls the funding for the renovation conservative, but necessary.
"This is a great example of investing in infrastructure for the long haul for the benefit of the community without having tax consequences."
"We’ve given the community a great airport and well partner with CenterState and with MACNY [The Manufacturers Association of Central New York] and assist them and you know we’ve got the facility now, and they bring those businesses in we’re here to serve them," Callahan added.
Many people hope this is a sign of even more growth for the region.
"It matters when you have tourists who come to the region, it matters when you have visiting friends and relatives, and it especially matters when your bringing businesses people into the region. It says something about where we are and where we’re going," Schwab said.
The airport commissioner is also hoping the newly renovated airport will help attract more airlines.
