Authorities in Lewis County reportedly found human remains just miles from where a Cortland man went missing earlier this year.

24-year-old Kenneth McCall was last seen walking with his girlfriend on Tidd Road in the Lewis County Town of Diana in the early morning hours of June 13. WWNY-TV in Watertown reports a body was found in a heavily wooded area near Aldrich Settlement Road and Nelson Road on Tuesday, about three miles from Tidd Road.

Authorities and volunteers searched for McCall for days after his disappearance; family members and volunteers continued the search for a couple of weeks beyond that. The search resumed when a backpack belonging to McCall was found Monday; inside were McCall's wallet, ID and glasses.

Officials have not identified the body that was found; an autopsy is scheduled to identify the remains.

McCall, originally from Lowville but most recently from Cortland, is said to have been visiting the area when he disappeared. McCall and his girlfriend were seen walking together before his disappearance. His girlfriend was found alone by a passing motorist on the morning McCall went missing. Authorities said at the time she was under the influence of a substance.

McCall's girlfriend told authorities her feet hurt, so she had stopped walking and last saw McCall leaving her to find water, WWNY reports.

At one point family members received possible sightings of McCall in the Syracuse area.
