Seasonable today, windy & warm Friday, severe t-storm risk Friday evening, cooler weekend
Good morning! Here is what you need to know before you go so you can plan ahead for today.
Most spots will have cool, but seasonable temperatures at sunrise in the upper 40s to lower 50s. While most of central New York will wake up with mostly sunny skies this morning, the fog prone deeper valleys of central New York are waking up to quite a bit of extensive dense fog. If you live in or have to drive through dense fog this morning, make sure to slow down, use your low beams and expect variable visibility. If you have fog, it will burn off to sunshine with a few clouds.
During this afternoon, expect a seasonable, enjoyable and quiet day with sunshine mixing with some clouds. Afternoon high temperatures should reach between 70 and 75 by mid-afternoon. Wind: E 3-9 MPH.
I have attached a video forecast showing an hour-by-hour progression of today’s weather hour-by-hour and place-by-place across central New York.
Big changes are on the way for the new couple of days. After a normal day today, expect above average temperatures for Friday alongside very gusty winds. Sustained winds should be 15 to 30 MPH with gusts to at least 40 MPH. A wind advisory may need to be issued due to general wind. High temperatures will try and reach above 80 degrees.
A powerful cold front will move through our area Friday evening. Considering all of the wind energy in the atmosphere and the big change in temperatures behind the cold front, I am worried that wind damage may occur in any stronger thunderstorms.
I have attached another video forecast showing you the Dog Walking Forecast, the big changes coming up next, the storm threat timeline, your forecast for the Syracuse Football game on Saturday and your Fall Foliage Forecast.
The Storms Prediction Center has placed all of CNY in the “slight risk” category for severe thunderstorms Friday evening. Since there will be a lot of wind energy around with this system, as well as other atmospheric dynamics, damaging winds, hail and rotating thunderstorms will be possible in any severe thunderstorms.
A slight risk means there is a 15% chance for damaging winds within 25 miles of any spot.
If a “WATCH” is issued, that means conditions are becoming more favorable for severe weather, but conditions are not dangerous yet. If a “WARNING” is issued, then severe weather conditions are imminent for the counties and places warned. The CNYcentral Weather Authority will keep you up to date on TV, on CNYcentral.com, on the CNYcentral Mobile App, on Facebook and on Twitter.
