Second victim in deadly West Monroe assault has died, hospital official says

The second victim in a deadly assault in Oswego County earlier this month has died, according to an official at Upstate University Hospital.

Michael Shane, 59, of West Monroe, who was in critical condition at the hospital following the incident, died on Tuesday, according to the Oswego County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities were called to 347 Breckheimer Road in West Monroe around 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 10.

Robert Diffin, 42, who lived at the home, was assaulted and suffered "severe trauma," deputies said. Diffin and Shane were rushed to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. Diffin was declared dead at the hospital on the same day.

After the incident, authorities arrested Mathew R. LeBoeuf, 33, of Central Square. He is facing murder and assault charges connected to the the death of Diffin.

The Sheriff's Department said Tuesday that LeBoeuf has now been charged with a second count of murder in the second degree.

The Sheriff's Office is investigating and is being assisted by the Oswego County District Attorney’s Office and the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office.
