A stretch of Interstate 81 through the city of Syracuse is back open after being closed briefly while Syracuse Police investigated a shooting tip.

According to Onondaga County 911 dispatch, the southbound lane of I-81 was shut down between Hiawatha Blvd. and Spencer Street just after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Syracuse Police told CNYCentral that authorities are following up on a tip regarding possible evidence from a previous shooting in the area.

The shooting did not occur today, police added.

The road reopened around 3:10 p.m.

It is unclear what, if anything, Syracuse Police found at the scene.
