County places ShoppingTown Mall on tax-delinquent auction list
DEWITT, N.Y. —
Onondaga County has placed ShoppingTown Mall on a list of tax-delinquent properties that will be auctioned off in October.
Back in July, ShoppingTown's owner Moonbeam Capital Investments LLC gave the town of DeWitt sketches for plans to redevelop the mall, but they were three months late and looked similar to the plans the town received three years earlier.
The mall has seen a slew of retail stores leaving the property in recent years. In 2017, some of the largest stores to leave were Tuxedo Junction — which was one of the original stores to open when the center became an enclosed mall in 1975 — the Caramel Corn Shop and the Yankee Candle.
The mall took a big hit in the winter of 2016 when Macy's, one of the mall's anchor stores, pulled out. Macy's also left Great Northern Mall in Clay later that year.
The mall's last remaining anchor store, Sears, announced back in May it would be closing its location at ShoppingTown later this year.
The auction will be held at the Crouse Hinds Theater on Oct. 22. For more information, click here.
