WHITNEY POINT, N.Y. — One man is dead after a fire broke out a home in Broome County on Saturday afternoon, according to New York State Police.
Troopers were called to Kemak Road, in the Town of Triangle just before 5:30 p.m.
When crews arrived to the scene they had to extract two people from the burning home.
Troopers say 59-year-old Mark L. Masler was pulled from the home and rushed to Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City with severe burns to a majority of his body. Masler was then taken to Upstate Medical University where he died from his injuries, according to state police.
Troopers say the other person inside of the home was not injured from the fire.
The origin and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Several fire departments from Broome County, Cortland County and Chenango County respnded and assisted at the scene
