State collecting worn American flags for NYS Fairgrounds watchfire

Worn and tattered flags are being collected across New York State that will be properly disposed of at the upcoming memorial watchfire at the New York State Fairgrounds.

Governor Cuomo announced the eight day long drive on Thursday and drop-off locations were set up across the state by the Office of General Services.

There are two drop-off sites that have been set up locally which are listed below.

  • Senator John J. Hughes State Office Building, 333 E. Washington St., Syracuse
  • Utica State Office Building, 207 Genesee St., Utica

"This year, across New York, we are offering drop-off locations statewide to ensure that old, worn American flags can be retired with respect and honor," Governor Cuomo said

All flags will be properly folded prior to disposal during the watchfire on Sunday, May 28th.
