State Police: Man in critical condition after Jefferson County crash
WILNA, N.Y. —
A man is in critical condition after a crash in the town of Wilna on Wednesday afternoon, according to New York State Police.
Troopers say 22-year-old David Baker was driving south on County Route 41 around 2 p.m. when his Jeep exited the roadway and hit a steel driveway marker. The driver's side door then fell off the vehicle.
The Jeep then sideswiped a utility pole and a road sign before re-entering the road, according to investigators. The vehicle continued another 2.8 miles south on County Route 41 and failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of County Route 40 and hit an embankment.
Troopers say Baker was thrown from the vehicle before it stopped approximately 10 feet off the road.
Baker was taken to Samaritan Medical Center by Fort Drum Helicopter and is listed in critical condition.
The investigation is ongoing.
