Still quite warm & humid today, much anticipated coldest air of the season up next

Good morning!

As expected, Syracuse broke another warm weather record while just missing one other. Here is what happened Wednesday:

With a low of 67° in Syracuse:
•Tied the WARMEST LOW for October 10th. (Old record: 67°/1949).
•Was 24° above average for a normal low!

With a high of 82° in Syracuse:
•Just misses the record high of 85° set in 1949.
•Was 20° above average for a normal high!

Once again today, temperatures and humidity values will be way above average for this time of year. Here is what you need to know before you go so you can plan ahead for today.

Temperatures across the area are once again starting absurdly above average. Normally, an early October morning should start near 43 degrees for Syracuse with upper 30s for the normally colder countryside. Our numbers are starting about 25 degrees above average and near record levels. Most spots are beginning the morning in the upper 60s to near 70.

Skies this morning will be variably to mostly cloudy with on and off scattered rain showers. During times when it is not raining, there is an opportunity for some peeks of sunshine. Temperatures will try and rise into the lower to middle 70s.

For the afternoon, once again, skies will be variable. A break of sunshine is possible in between showers. However, roughly between 2 PM and 4 PM, a thin line of heavier rain showers and possible thunderstorms will make its way through central New York from west to east. This is along a strong cold front that will change seasons from the summery weather we have had recently to full-fledged fall weather for Friday and beyond. Expect high temperatures between 73 and 78 for most areas today. Numbers will fall very late this afternoon. It will be breezy. Wind: SSW shifts to W 10-20 MPH with gusts to 30 MPH.

I have attached a video forecast showing an hour-by-hour progression of today’s weather hour-by-hour and place-by-place across central New York.

For Friday, I am expecting mainly to mostly cloudy skies alongside noticeably cooler temperatures. Numbers will likely spend most of the daytime hours between the upper 40s to lower 50s. Inside the thickest clouds along with a west-northwesterly wind, a few lake effect sprinkles and minor light showers will be possible from time to time. There is a chance for peeks of sun.

It looks like Syracuse and all of central New York will likely have the coldest high temperature of the season so far on Saturday and potentially the coldest low temperature of the season by Sunday morning.

In addition, it appears that a combination of regular rain showers and localized lake effect rain showers will occur later Friday night through Saturday evening. Partial clearing will occur Saturday night into Sunday morning and allow for potentially some of the coldest air of the season and also the possibility of patchy frost, especially for the coldest countryside.

I have attached another video forecast showing the Dog Walking Forecast, the big changes coming our way, the Fall Foliage forecast for this weekend, and the forecast for the home opener for the Syracuse Crunch hockey team.
