Oswego man comes down from roof after 12 hours

Police say a man is safe this morning after a threatening to jump from a roof for 12 hours.

The City of Oswego Police Department said this happened on West Seneca Street between Ontario Street and Liberty Street.

Police were first called to the scene around 3:30pm Monday afternoon. Police say the 24-year-old man appeared to have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs and was yelling incoherently at times during the incident. According to officials, the man does not live at this location and managed to gain access to the roof with a ladder. Officers attempted to negotiate with the subject and at 3:25 am on Tuesday morning the man was successfully taken into custody by police.

The subject has been transported to Oswego Hospital for evaluation and will face charges of Criminal Mischief and Trespass in Oswego City Court.
