Summer camp begins for hundreds of Central New York kids in just a few weeks, and the camp experience will depend on the latest state guidance.
The YMCA is going a step further than New York’s guidance, planning to require mask wearing for staff and unvaccinated kids.
“Everything is subject to change as we learn new information, but again, keeping our youngest kids safe, the ones who haven't been able to get vaccinated yet, is going to be our top priority right now,” said Stefanie Noble, marketing and communications for YMCA of Central New York.
Camps in the town of Cicero are following New York’s guidance to the letter, telling parents it’s up to them if their child wears a mask at camp.
“If we can have day camp and have no masks, that's the way I want to go,” says Linda Adams, recreational director for Cicero.
Both sets of camps say they are prepared to adjust to any changing guidelines and will also have campers split up into pods so they are with the same group each day.
