CORTLAND COUNTY, N.Y. — A SUNY Cortland professor who was reported missing on Monday, June 13 has been found dead, Cortland County Sheriff’s Deputies said Wednesday.
Deputies began searching for 40-year-old Muteb Alqahtani on Monday after it was believed that he went missing from his home in the Town of Cortlandville.
After investigating further, deputies found that Alqahtani was seen near Route 281 in Cortlandville around 11 a.m. on Monday.

Deputies, along with officers from the New York State University Police at Cortland, walked into the wooded area where they found the body of Alqahtani.
“Dr. Alqahtani was a well-respected faculty member and beloved colleague in our Childhood/Early Childhood Education Department. He was passionate about mathematics education for children and he was involved in several initiatives related to diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus,” SUNY Cortland said in a statement.
At this time, investigators say they do not suspect foul play.
