Syracuse Barbra Streisand impersonator on '2 Broke Girls' Thursday night

SYRACUSE -- He's been performing as Barbra Streisand since he was 13 years old, now Jimmy Wachter's Hollywood dreams are coming true. His cameo appearance on the hit CBS comedy '2 Broke Girls' airs this Thursday evening at 9:30 on CBS5, WTVH-TV.

"I knew I was going to get it, I don't know how, but I just knew," Wachter says of the process of landing the role as "Barbra." He learned of the role through a friend in Hollywood who encouraged him to audition. He sent in this 43 second clip which he recorded in a backyard. Days later, producers of the show called him and started making arrangements to fly him to Los Angeles for the production.

"I've always wanted to be in Hollywood," Wachter said. "This really was living a dream for me and it took me 50 years to do it. I guess you can never give up on your dreams," he added.

Wachter first started performing as Barbra Streisand after he saw the 1976 film 'A Star Is Born.' His mother took him to the film, his first "R" rated movie, "I begged her to take me, and after that she started encouraging my performances. My first show was at a senior citizens center, it was a Christmas show," Wachter recalls.

Taping his cameo on '2 Broke Girls' took a full week. He was impressed with the professionalism of the cast and crew at the Warner Brothers Studios in Los Angeles. "There are so many hard working people who do their best every day to make these twenty-one minute episodes, it is really impressive," he said.

The episode featuring Wachter airs at 9:30 p.m. on CBS5. "It's really funny, I hope people like it," he said.
