Democratic Common Councilor Chol Majok has entered the race for Congress with the hopes of succeeding Rep. John Katko (NY-24).

Rep. Katko recently announced he would not seek re-election to Congress and will end his fourth term this year.

Majok, a former refugee, came to the United States from South Sudan as a young boy and was one of thousands of Sudanese refugees dubbed ‘the Lost Boys.’

Majok made history in 2019 as the first former refugee to sit on Syracuse’s Common Council.

Majok is now the fourth Democrat to run for the seat; Francis Conole, Steven Holden, and Sarah Klee Hood have also declared their candidacy.
