Syracuse man arrested for driving while smoking pot with baby in back seat

A Syracuse man was arrested late last week for driving while smoking marijuana with a young child in the car.

According to the DeWitt Police Department, officers conducted a traffic stop around 12:09 a.m. on May 17.

It was alleged that Luis Maldonado, 21, of Syracuse, was operating the vehicle while smoking marijuana with a 1-year-old child in the back seat.

Police also said the child was not properly restrained in a child safety seat.

Maldonado was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, unlawful possession of marijuana and improper restraint on child passenger.

Maldonado was released on an appearance ticket and is due to return to the Town of Dewitt Court on June 6.
