Syracuse upsets Clemson at Carrier Dome

The Syracuse Orange took down the number two team in the nation at the Carrier Dome Friday night.

Let the celebration begin.

The Clemson Tigers, defending ACC champs, ran into a buzzsaw Friday night, with the largest home crowd of the season, Syracuse found a way to upset #2 Clemson 27-24.

Eric Dungey was masterful, with 339 yards of total offense and three touchdown passes to pace the Orange attack.

Steve Ishmael, Dontae Strickland, and Erv Philips all hauled in touchdowns and had Clemson off-balance all night.

"We didn't really handle anything well. We just didn't win the matchups, and they just flat out out-coached us. It's truly that simple. If I don't coach better than I did tonight, the rest doesn't matter" said Clemson Head Coach Dabo Swinney

This is the first time that SU football has defeated Clemson since joining the ACC back in 2013.

This is one of the most significant upsets in recent memory for SU Football, the first time they've beaten a top-five team since 2001.

Dontae Strickland was powerful on the ground with 19 carries for 78 yards. Eric Dungey would've eclipsed 100 yards rushing, but sacks brought his total down to 61.

The Syracuse defense finished the night with 4 sacks. Their performance was incredibly impressive, considering one of Clemson's touchdowns came by way of a fumble return for a score by the Tiger defense.

It's been 30 years since SU has knocked off the defending national champion.

It was Penn State back in 1987, which launched an undefeated season.
