If you are looking for a unique way to experience part of New York State history in a scenic setting than a trip to the Liz and Dave Beebe Camillus Erie Canal Park should be on your list.
Nestled between Nine Mile Creek and a wooded hillside near Camillus, the Erie Canal Park features 14 miles of scenic trails along the canal and four miles of navigable water and is part of the Empire State Trail.
The Canal Park is part of the Town of Camillus Park and was established in 1972 by Liz and Dick Beebe who are responsible for the creation of the park and still oversee it to this day.
In addition to the trail the Park offers scenic boat tours along the canal.
The boat tours offer visitors informative 45 minute boat tours of the canal on four different replica vintage boats.
While taking in the sights, visitors can learn about life life along the canal and enjoy the scenic beauty of the canal from a different vantage points and get an up close view of the Nine Mile Creek Aqueduct which is the only restored navigable aqueduct in the state.
In addition to boat tours, the Camillus Erie Canal Park offers visitors a museum, a recreated canal store and gift shop models of locks and canal boats and a Steam Engine Exhibit.
Canal Boat Tours are offered May-Columbus Day Weekend on Wednesdays and Sundays between 1:00 P.M. and 4:00 P.M.
