The MOST in Syracuse is pairing up with Syracuse University, AT&T, Tech4Kidz, and the Syracuse City School District to launch the city’s first digital literacy summer program for underserved kids in the city school district.

The summer program is designed to address equality issues in technology education and to help local students impacted by the digital divide, according to a spokesperson for AT&T. The program will provide 110 underrepresented students from Syracuse City School District in 4th through 8th grades an opportunity to gain digital literacy, while encouraging them to explore a STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) educational and career path, organizers said.

The first portion of the program will be hosted by Tech4kids and professors from the Syracuse University’s School of Information Studies (iSchool) in collaboration with the Syracuse City School District. It will be for 80 students from 4th through 6th grades attending summer school in an effort to provide additional digital literacy.

The second part of the program will be hosted by the MOST and professors from Syracuse University’s iSchool from Monday, Aug. 22nd – Friday, Aug 26th from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the innovative museum for public school students from 6th through 8th grades.

To eliminate economic barriers, the program is free, and lunch, snacks and transportation are provided, organizers said.

The program will be hosted at Frazer PreK-8 School and Bellevue Elementary School from Aug. 1st –5th (Session 1) and Aug. 8th –12th (Session 2) from 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. each day.
