Tracking rain, some sun, warmth & a slight risk for a severe thunderstorm

Good morning! Here is what you need to know before you go.

We are waking up to unseasonably mild temperatures. Numbers will start this morning in the middle to upper 60s for most areas. There will likely be some areas of rain moving through the area especially from mid to late this morning. You can track exactly where the rain is right now with Interactive Doppler Radar and Live Triple Doppler Radar.

During the afternoon, expect variable conditions. It will become quite breezy, warm and humid. Skies should contain clouds and some intervals of sunshine. I cannot rule out an isolated or scattered shower or thunderstorm at any time. However, there should be dry periods, as well. While I cannot rule out an isolated heavier thunderstorm over parts of east-central New York between 2 PM and 4 PM, the highest risk for an isolated or scattered heavier to severe thunderstorm will occur roughly between 7 PM and 9 PM. Expect high temperatures to reach the upper 70s to lower 80s. Winds outside of any thunderstorms will be S to SSW 10-20 MPH with gusts to 30 MPH. However, stronger damaging winds may occur in any severe thunderstorms.

I have attached a video forecast showing an hour-by-hour progression of today’s weather hour-by-hour and place-by-place across central New York.

The Storms Prediction Center has placed all of CNY in the “slight risk” category for severe thunderstorms. Since there will be a lot of wind energy around with this system, as well as other atmospheric dynamics, damaging winds, hail and rotating thunderstorms will be possible in any severe thunderstorms.

If a “WATCH” is issued, that means conditions are becoming more favorable for severe weather, but conditions are not dangerous yet. If a “WARNING” is issued, then severe weather conditions are imminent for the counties and places warned. The CNYcentral Weather Authority will keep you up to date on TV, on, on the CNYcentral Mobile App, on Facebook and on Twitter.

I have attached another video forecast that includes a discussion about this severe thunderstorm threat. It also includes the Grab & Go forecast, the Dog Walking forecast, and the forecast for the Poison & Cheap Trick Lakeview Amphitheater concert tonight.
