Trump claims Gov. Cuomo told him he wouldn't run against him
UTICA, N.Y. (AP) -- President Donald Trump is claiming that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo called and told him that he wouldn't challenge him for the presidency.
The Democratic governor's office didn't immediately respond to Trump's remarks, which came as the president spoke at a fundraiser Monday for Republican Rep. Claudia Tenney in Utica.
Trump says New York could have the nation's lowest taxes if Cuomo pursued different energy policies. He says, "It's very sad to see what's happened with New York."
He also says Cuomo called him and said, "`I will never run for president against you.' But maybe he wants to." Trump added: "Oh, please do it. Please. Please."
Cuomo is among the Democrats discussed as a possible 2020 White House contender.
The president says, "Anybody who runs against Trump suffers."
