Two dead, one injured in Waterloo shooting; suspect in custody
WATERLOO, N.Y. — State police say a suspect is in custody after a man and woman were killed in Waterloo. Another woman was also injured.
According to state police, the suspect was taken into custody at a campground in Phelps.
The shooting happened around 11:30 Tuesday night on Virginia Street.
The owner of "All the Way" taxi service in Waterloo told our sister station 13WHAM that one of his drivers picked up two women from Lizard’s Lounge in Waterloo Tuesday night.
The cab driver then reportedly dropped them off on Virginia Street, and then saw a man with a gun come out of the bushes and follow them into a house.
The driver called his dispatcher, who then called 911.
State police have not identified the suspects or the victims as of early Wednesday afternoon. However the Finger Lakes Times is reporting the suspect is Emerson Tohafjian, 48.
In its report, the Finger Lakes Times says Tohafjian was arrested on June 19 on charges of rape, unlawful imprisonment, criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, and cruelty. Tohafjian posted bail and was released three days later, according to the Times' report.
Waterloo Police say residents near Virginia Street received reverse 911 calls to stay inside their homes.
They say residents should call Seneca County 911 for any urgent needs.
Multiple police agencies are on scene.
