U.S. Border Patrol agent from Oswego arrested for distributing child porn

Oswego County

A U.S. Border Patrol agent from Oswego County is facing child pornography charges.

According to U.S. District Attorney Grant C. Jaquith's office, Keith E. Hook, 54, appeared Monday in federal court in Syracuse on Monday on charges that he distributed child pornography over the internet.

A federal criminal complaint said that Hook, of Oswego, used Kik Messenger to distribute child pornography to other Kik users between April 30 and May 4.

Officials said an initial forensic review of Hook's personally owned iPod revealed that it contained approximately 34 image files and two video files depicting child pornography.

The judge ordered Hook to be detained pending a hearing scheduled for July 6.

If convicted, Hook faces at least five years and up to 20 years in prison, a term of post-release supervision of at least five years and up to life, and a fine of up to $250,000.

Additionally, if convicted, Hook would be required to register as a sex offender.

This case is being investigated by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Syracuse with assistance from U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Office of Inspector General (DHS/OIG), U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Professional Responsibility, the New York State Police Computer Crimes Unit, and the New York State Police (Fulton station), and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Geoffrey J. L. Brown.
