U.S. leader of Thailand cave rescue throws out first pitch at Chief's game

One of the leaders in the Thailand cave rescue last month had the honor of throwing out the first pitch at the Syracuse Chief's game Tuesday night.

Derek Anderson was born in Syracuse and raised in Ecuador. He led the U.S. rescue team that helped rescue 12 Thai soccer players and their coach.

Anderson is a rescue specialist with the United States Air Force.

"I really think all of us felt overwhelmed when it actually worked and all 13 were able to get taken out of the cave and we didn't lose anybody. So it was quite a miracle," Anderson said.

He calls it a "once in a lifetime rescue."

The players and their coach endured half hour dives with zero visibility during the rescue last month.
